MANILA - Philippine police said yesterday they have used Twitter and Facebook to solve a second high-profile case in a week.

The case involves a flamboyant gang of young men and women who robbed the rich to feed their drug habits.

Police said they have killed gang leader Ivan Padilla, 23, and arrested three other people over the past week following a rash of vehicle thefts at gated housing villages and high-rise luxury condominiums.

The suspects, most of whom also lived in wealthy Manila neighbourhoods, included beautiful and smartly-dressed women who prowled bars and parties for potential victims.

A former Foreign Minister and a local movie actor's parents were said to be among their victims. Police are hunting for six other gang members.

Last week, police in the northern city of Angeles used Facebook to help track down a computer technician accused of murdering nine people. AFP
