The dark web is simply the World Wide Web internet content that exists on hidden overlays: anonymous networks that use the Internet but demand special software, settings, or authorization for access. Some of these include the Tor network, and several other specialized anonymous pages. It is estimated that more than two hundred and fifty million web sites exist on the dark web today. While the average computer user only visits about one web site in a given day, that's just one click across hundreds of thousands of these hidden web sites - a mighty effort indeed.

Why The FBI Suspects Cyber Espionage On The Dark Web: This dark web phenomenon has many curious onlookers wondering how it could be possible. Most people are aware that the government and intelligence community often work closely together, especially with the National Security Agency. So it should be no surprise that the same people are also involved in cyberspace operations. That's probably why the federal government recently blamed the Chinese government for the massive attacks on the American defense contractor NSA. According to the main article, the inspector general is currently "conducting an investigation to determine whether any of China's government-sponsored computer programs breach security measures employed by the United States."

How Many People Are Visiting These Dark Web Sites? According to the investigator, he believes the numbers are increasing exponentially every year: "We estimate that well over half of all cyber threats originate from China." If the FBI is correct, and it seems likely they are, how come no one has done anything about it? This sounds like a troubling issue, especially since China is one of the biggest abusers of intellectual property worldwide. However, as mentioned before, this is only one example of cyber espionage against the United States; and many other countries (notably India) have nothing to fear from their dark web rivals.
